Sunsetsplash poked her head out of the nursery, scanning the camp, her kits in between her front legs, faces fearful and apprehensive. Salmonleap was sunning himself in a patch of light, sharing tongues with Splashtail. Sharpstar had agreed to let the RiverClan tom stay in ThunderClan, but to little enthusiasm — ThunderClan cats still viewed the " water-cat " with deep suspicion, but payed little attention to him otherwise. Their kits, now apprentices, were play-fighting near the elder's den. Hollythrush, Ivytail and Mouseleap were watching them as they groomed themselves outside their den. Snowpaw had Dawnpaw pinned to the ground, who was squealing under her brother's weight, while Troutpaw battered Snowpaw with his orange paws. Rustling drew everyone's attention, and the hunting patrol returned. Deerleap, Willowstem, Flowerhaze and Stormcloud deposited their catches onto the prey-pile — although Stormcloud picked up a dove and gestured to Willowstem before they both padded to a quiet spot in camp to share the bird. Shadowheart twitched her whiskers mischievously at her brother, and she whispered something to Fernsight, who purred. They sorted through their herbs while they gossiped. " Mother, tell us who died again." Daisykit mewed, padding back into the nursery. Ravenkit followed her, batting at her tail. Daisykit turned, wrenching her tail free from her brother's claws, and bopped him in the nose with her paw. Ghostkit snickered, plopping himself down in his mother's nest, while Mossykit stayed by Sunsetsplash's side, who gathered all of her kits into a orderly row to address them. " I've told you before, Daisykit." Sunsetsplash meowed, looking at her daughter, who sniffed. " But tell us again!" She repeated. " Yeah! Again!" Ravenkit cheered, dancing on his paws. Ghostkit and Mossykit exchanged glances, and Ghostkit flashed out his white paw — his brother tripped on it, and Ravenkit glared at Ghostkit, his paw withdrawn. " Quiet down, or I'll tell you nothing." Sunsetsplash said sternly. The four kits straightened up, looking subdued. Ghostkit caught Mossykit's eye and they both purred in amusement. Daisykit rolled her eyes. " Swallowstream was killed by a ShadowClan cat, Willowlight and Blazeheart — my parents — were killed in the fire, and Sharpstar lost two of his lives, one to Dark Shadow and one from his wounds afterwards." Ghostkit looked in awe. " Wow! It was a bloodbath!" Sunsetsplash sighed gustily. Her son was so insensitive sometimes. " Yes, it was." " How many lives does Sharpstar have now?" Outside, Sunsetsplash watched her kits play with the apprentices. They were perfect — all four of them. Daisykit, a golden she-cat with a beautiful mottled pattern of darker gold and pale brown, complete with elegant white paws and freckles, leaped onto Troutpaw's back, looking triumphant. Ghostkit, with his white pelt that seemed to glow in both the sunlight, moonlight or gloom, stared at his sister with narrowed blue eyes, his black tail tip and ears a sharp contrast to his white pelt. Mossykit, a mottled tortoiseshell tom with mismatched blue and yellow eyes and white patches, wrestled with Ravenkit, with a pelt fitting his name and bright green eyes. Sunsetsplash smiled as she watched her kits play, noticing that Shadowheart and Stormcloud were watching as well. She looked up to the sky, imagining Smokecloud and Leafpaw up there, watching the four kits just as fondly as her living kin did, and whispered, " My destiny is complete, and yet. . .
