Only Morgan Sierra (as nimbly written by Ms. Penn) could make battling demons, scuba diving in the ____ Sea, and doding missiles look like a ride I want to go on. Morgan is back with her partner Jake, and the chemistry sparks even as she doubts his fitness as he recovers from their last mission. We find out what was in the mysterious package Morgan received at ARKANE and her father's past comes back to haunt her in new ways. The Kabbalistic mysticism takes the reader into a new world that blends religious fact and tradition with fanaticism and true fatith to create thought-provoking, as well as page-turning, story.

If you've been reading this series, then you'll know how awesome the descriptive writing is. If you haven't...get thee to the first book in the series and read them in order. It's more fun that way. I loved this glimpse into a bit of family history, as well as the paranormal elements Penn wraps nicely around historical elements. I'm not usually a fan of reading things based in religion or history, to be honest, but she does this in such an artful way that I can forget it's religion and instead enjoy a fast paced thriller ride, all the while feeling like I'm really there. If you're a fan of Dan Brown, you won't be disappointed. There's information, history, artifacts, a chase, thrills, all told with beautiful descriptions and without the heavy handed info dumping Brown is known for.

I received this book as an author preview and was glad I did. Though #6 in the ARKANE series, it stands pretty much on its own. Author J.F.Penn expertly creates backdrops of place and time so anyone new to the story will not get lost. Unless, of course, they blink. From cover to cover it's not stop action. There's murder and mayhem. Secrets to unearth. Ciphers to decode. From Spain to Israel the Czech Republic and beyond, Dr. Morgan Sierra and Jake Timber, are pushed to the limits of their endurance in a race to stop evil from tearing asunder the very fabric of reality, which gets pretty frayed along the way. It’s a thrill ride that kept me guessing, until the very end. A read I couldn’t put down.
