  • Unexpected treat

I never intended nor expected to want to read a book in the series that wasn’t authored by Adams. I changed my mind because I felt the ending of Mostly Harmless was so depressing, i reasoned nothing in a differently authored sequel could be as bad. I was right. This filled me with joy and contentment for the ending, and had me laughing for its entirety. The story involving Asgard and Thor is genius, and Trillian/Wowbagger?? I personally loved to see it 😂 Colfer has the rhythm and tone but doesn’t mimic Adams completely in his style, which I think is a good thing. I’m so happy I gave it a chance, because it changed the whole ‘trilogy’ for me.

A disgrace to the name of Douglas Adams. Colfer so obviously pads out the book by putting in long “guide entries” that are just intrusions to the “comedy.” Unfunny, and the characters stray too far from what they originally were. I longed for a sixth book, but this doesn’t deliver. This book made me feel nothing but disappointment. Don’t waste your money on this.

I deem it a great injustice that someone let this author use the characters of Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker trilogy. Douglas had timing and skill with the ridiculous. He was unique. This author tried way too hard and fell way short. I feel cheated but I am not too surprised - the idea that anyone could follow Douglas Adams was, of course ridiculous. Do not buy. If you did the burn it. Unless it is an ebook, in which case just delete it. I did.

For fans of Douglas Adam's works: this sixth installment is a hysterical addition that you wont want to put down. Eoin Colfer has continued the haphazard and delightfully droll adventures of Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect! 5 stars all the way.
