Description

The latest installment in the highly acclaimed, internationally bestselling Strike series finds Cormoran and Robin ensnared in another winding, wicked case.

When frantic, disheveled Edie Ledwell appears in the office begging to speak to her, private detective Robin Ellacott doesn’t know quite what to make of the situation. The cocreator of a popular cartoon, The Ink Black Heart, Edie is being persecuted by a mysterious online figure who goes by the pseudonym of Anomie. Edie is desperate to uncover Anomie’s true identity.

Robin decides that the agency can’t help with this—and thinks nothing more of it until a few days later, when she reads the shocking news that Edie has been tasered and then murdered in Highgate Cemetery, the location of The Ink Black Heart.

Robin and her business partner, Cormoran Strike, become drawn into the quest to uncover Anomie’s true identity. But with a complex web of online aliases, business interests and family conflicts to navigate, Strike and Robin find themselves embroiled in a case that stretches their powers of deduction to the limits – and which threatens them in new and horrifying ways . . .

A gripping, fiendishly clever mystery, The Ink Black Heart is a true tour-de-force.

5 Stars. This was definitely the best yet in the series. I had difficulty putting it down. This was Galbraith/Jo at HP level outstanding. Robin and Strike continue to grow. Continue to entertain. The mystery was compelling, difficult and satisfying. Just an outstanding book. Really looking forward to this installment of the TV series. Looking forward even more to THE RUNNING GRAVE.

I’ve read all of this series as well as Harry Potter back in the day. RG is such an amazing writer and every single book is truly amazing. For me the longer, the better. The character development, the story development, the storyline, all of it - absolutely LOVE every time. I read the paperback version bc I read the note about the online chats being difficult to read - and they are. So definitely go for paperback if you don’t mind it because it’s much easier to follow the multiple chat boxes. Amazing work JKR/RG. I love love love this series so much. It’s truly incredible how creative you are!

Can’t say that I enjoyed reading this book. I’ve read all of this authors books and have been enamored by the character development and the complexity of the stories. This format was difficult to read, difficult to follow and didn’t hold my interest. I didn’t enjoy the texting/online format at all. I think it fails miserably as literary prose. Please abandon this idea.

Loved it! This series is awesome, so many twist, turns, subtle clues; it actually makes you think! I usually, with other who-done-it books, figure out who the bad person is within the first half- but not with this series! Definitely recommend I had no issue following along with the online chats, contrary to a few other reviews I saw. I enjoyed it!

Excellently written, with all the twists and turns you expect from the Galbraith series.

Love the characters. This is long. Endless in-game chats or tweets don’t seem necessary. The chapter epigraphs entirely useless.
  • Could not finish book

I tried twice but could not finish this book. I have enjoyed the other books in this series but this one has too many awful characters and is very dark. Also it is difficult to read all the tweeted conversations between characters. The plot plodded slowly along and was not exciting or fun. I gave up on the book. :(
