Howard Pyle was an American author and illustrator, who dealt primarily with books for young people. He is well known for his illustrations of pirates, and is credited for creating the dress. He was interested in pirates and their adventures, so he used his talents for depiction of the old-time pirates and wrote many stories about them. After his death, a number of his pirate stories and illustrations were collected and published in the book Howard Pyle's Book of Pirates.
This book is highly readable and contains interesting stories that describe rip-roaring adventure of pirates and buccaneers of the Spanish Main, and a lot of illustrations.
