Description

Knulp is a man living a nomadic life, wandering from town to town, staying at friends’ houses. Back in the time, he was very talented and promising young man, who had a bright future wait. Instead of living in the best way he could, he wastes his time given on the earth to wander carelessly.
Knulp’s life in this book starts after he is released from hospital because of his poor health. He stays at a friend’s house and spends his day doing nothing. His friend’s wife starts liking Knulp, but he doesn’t respond the same way. He is interested in a girl named Barbra Flick, who has recently arrived at the town as a servant. Soon, he decides to leave the town and move on.
After leaving the town, we continue following his wandering through the meadows and forests of Germany and his interactions with other people.
We follow his everyday adventures and see how he travels through the country with no reason.
It is a book about throwing life away, not being able to live it to its fullest. It is about spending years for nothing and about letting life slip through the fingers and not doing anything to change that.
