Home / The Book of the Roycrofters
Elbert Hubbard founded the Roycroft community of artisans in East Aurora, New York in 1895; the people were dedicated to producing handmade furniture and traditional crafts. Hubbard visited England in the early 1890s and briefly met William Morris, one of the leading figures of the Arts and Crafts Movement and the founder of the Kelmscott Press, which produced beautiful, hand-printed and illustrated books. Hubbard returned to the United States and founded his own Roycroft Press, which printed books such as The Book of the Roycrofters and Little Journeys, among others.
