Home / R.U.R.: Or, Rossum’s Universal Robots
R.U.R. takes place in a future world where the company Rossum's Universal Robots has perfected the art of creating artificial beings, known as robots, who are made from a synthetic biological material. These robots, unlike mechanical devices, are biologically grown and resemble human beings in appearance and function, but they are not conscious or capable of emotions. Initially, the robots are created to serve humanity, performing menial labor and improving efficiency in various industries. However, the robots are designed to be free from emotions, which makes them highly efficient workers, and they are manufactured in mass quantities. As the company expands, the robots become more widespread, eventually replacing human workers entirely. Over time, the robots are given more autonomy and are no longer just tools of labor—they begin to develop self-awareness, leading to an uprising against their creators.
