A poignant look of how family, circumstances and environment influences one’s self and one’s outlook. This memoir is beautifully written and should remind all who read this that tomorrow isn’t a given but a gift.

Easy reading. Brought by memories of my own childhood. After reading this, I appreciate my mother so much more.

I loved the way that I identified with her relationship with her mother. And she gave me a lot to think about concerning my mom! I will ALWAYS grieve for my mother but didn’t grieve for a long time. I just felt lost and I still do….

Whoopie has written a truly amazing book about her life with and without her Mom and brother. She had truly magical years from childhood to adulthood. It was inspiring , funny and sad. I remember many places she and her family shared in her formative years. I am of her generation and a New Yorker.so we share more than a few images. She is an extremely talented woman whom I greatly admire. Thank you Whoopie for a wonderful, heart warming book that had me in tears at the end. Miss my Mom so much TOO
A joy to read!!!

Whoopi nails this one. When it comes to dealing with the loss of a mother, Whoopi got it on point. I lost my mother 9 years ago and everything she says rings true. From the grief and pain to remembering to laugh to honor their lives. I loved all the stories & memories she has of her mother. I love her attitude to just live life on her own terms. Great read!

I appreciate her words on grief. They are helping me through my own grief journey after losing my only child suddenly and unexpectantly to a heart attack. Then my baby brother who was also my best friend 4 years later. Her words also started me on an even clearer path of reconciling the complex relationship between my mom and me all these years after her passing.
I liked the life lessons she passed on to the reader. Pure gems! I liked experiencing a different side of the time in which I came of age. I too am 69. I liked that Whoopi was so open and vulnerable. I cannot recall ever seeing her in that light. Probably because the times when she needed to "check her face" stood out more.😄 I''ve always been a fan of her work. I feel now I am a fan of her authentic self. Thanks for being you Whoopi Goldberg.
