So well written…a fabulous adventure story of discovery. It’s almost as if the reader is alongside Captain Cook aboard his majestic ship.

I’ve read several books about Capt Cook. This is by far away the best for many reasons. The story telling is extraordinary, the detail incredible, and the balance of explanation about Cook and the Indigenous people he encounters is highly commendable. A great read!

This history meets drama story of the most talented sailor ever is way better than history class. Easy to read and as interesting as Cook himself.

Going in, I had a perception the author would favor Cook despite his connection to imperialism; HOWEVER, I was pleased to learn that isn’t the case. The book simply recounts the unique, historical events that happened during Cook’s 3rd voyage from a neutral perspective. A lot of research went into making this book, and I appreciated learning about Cook’s approach to interacting with indigenous people, his internal reflections about the ramifications of interacting with them, and how he sought to protect them in certain ways from his men.

I knew very little of Cook’s voyage but this book is great start (or continuation) for anyone interested in those incredible stories during the age of discovery and exploration.

I couldn’t put this book down. What a fantastic story full of adventure. It’s amazing how Mr. Sides can make a historical non-fiction book feel like epic fiction.

An interesting journey as if though you are riding along with the characters, hard to put down and fascinating story.

A great and detailed story of Cook’s last voyage. Dramatic, entertaining, and factual. If you like histories of exploration and the clash of cultures, get it.
