I’m 68 years old and cannot remember in any level of schooling, any mention of this story. I first caught wind of it on Rachel’s show and decided to buy the book. I literally could not put it down. It’s an important lesson to remember now that we’re pretty much going through the same process with the GOP and Trump. Remember our history folks. Our country isn’t perfect but it’s the best democracy on the planet.

A very good look at the past in reference to today’s events. Like a case study to understand something that might happen in the near future. I found it to be credible.

Not a huge fan of long and detailed non-fiction, but this was very educational and makes me skeptical of humans and their nature while also thankful for those who act seemingly selflessly.

Ms Maddow’s best-selling book revisits a period of history that has been either forgotten or put on the shelf, and never revealed to the current generation. This history bears revisiting, because it can happen again…a prequel to our current cultural threat of warring political bodies and unfit presidential candidates. The author makes this point over and over by just relating the facts. A deeply researched book.

At 73 I would have thought that I had a good sense of America’s racial and ethnic challenges, currently and historically. Reading Prequel affirmed I have much more to learn on the subject. Thank you Rachel!

A history lesson that reminds us — given some of the present political currents — not to forget the past lest we allow a repeat.
  • Readable but depressing

Very readable coverage of the depressing story of American ultra-right efforts to undermine U.S. democracy in the years prior to World War II. Let us hope history does not repeat.
