Top notch detective story with a hint of sci-fi/fantasy background. Truly a re-imagined Sherlock Holmes and Watson story that keeps you turning the pages. The main characters are well-developed and the clues are nicely spaced but you will need a fine-toothed comb or a Holmsian mind to get them.

Smart, well written, thoroughly enjoyable. A fully realized fantasy world with a puzzle box mystery at its heart. Every page is a treasure.

Great murder mystery with a similar style to Foundry side, another RJB book. I like his characters and the world he built, at times his stories seem like they struggle to fill 450 pages. They start to feel a little drug out, hence three stars

Good page turner, as are the other Bennett books I’ve read. My only criticism is that it’s a bit derivative of The Founder’s trilogy where people are “augmented” in some way to give them powers. The difference here is that in this book, the augmentations are only on organic things, people, animals, plants. Nevertheless, this is a good mystery with great characters and good world building.

Let me say first, sci-fi is not one of my favorites. I enjoyed this book so much. It was a slow go, for reading, so many names and strange things happening, but over all a really good whodunnit. If you enjoy a twisted thriller with a side of strange, you will love this one. A definite must read.
