Franz Kafka, a German-speaking Czech author known for his unsettling dreamlike narratives, published very little before his untimely death of tuberculosis in 1924. The three stories in this Pseudoscorpion Edition ("A Hunger Artist", "In the Penal Colony", and "A Country Doctor"), though differing wildly in subject, achieve the same nightmarish effect: a caged man starves himself for the amusement of others; an officer defends the use of a bizarre execution device; a doctor visits a boy with a mysterious wound in his side. A Pseudoscorpion Digital Edition.
