Home / Remorse
In the 1810s Coleridge settled in London and became known as a literary authority after a well-received series of lectures on the works of William Shakespeare. Despite his deepening opium addiction, Coleridge embarked on an ambitious project to revise his drama Osorio, which he had composed decades before. Remorse, the resulting work, bears the marks of Coleridge's critical study of Shakespeare's plays. In 1813 the play was performed in London to favorable reviews.
