García Sarmiento, Felix Rubén (Rubén Darío) (San Pedro de Metapa, 1867-1916), Nicaragua. The son of Manuel García and Rosa Sarmiento, he was born on January 18, 1867. In 1881 he wrote articles for the political newspaper La Verdad and shortly after he went to El Salvador and gave grammar classes. He returned to Nicaragua in 1883 and around 1890 he married Rafaela Contreras in El Salvador, with whom he had a son, Rubén Darío Contreras. She died in 1893 and that same year she married Rosario Murillo. In 1892 Darío traveled to Spain, on behalf of the Nicaraguan government, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the conquest of America. A year later, in 1893, he began his career as a diplomat in America and Europe and met Francisca Sánchez in Madrid, who was his inspiration for a long time. For years he toured Europe sent by the newspaper La Nación. He returned to Nicaragua in 1907 and was received with honors and named a resident minister in Spain. He lived again in Europe until 1915, the year in which he returned to America at the invitation of the President of Guatemala. He died on February 6, 1916 in Nicaragua.
