Just repetitive and slow moving. Too much romance talk and it’s all so repetitive, devoid of action. Couldn’t get through it.
  • A filler book

I read through the first two books immediately. This third book dragggsss. A lot more could have been cut in the editing process of this book. Wish I could finish it!

Utter garbage. She cannot keep track of the needlessly complicated rules she invented and has to continue to come up with even more nonsense that doesn’t add up with the first two books. This series has gone off the rails. Do not waste your time

This is the best series I have ever read. Moving on to book 4 “Shadow in the Ember” it’s the 2 series coming together and read in publication order.

The first two books in series were fun. Beginning to drag. Story still good.
  • Good! Could be better.

I had to repick this book up twice in order to finish it. Felt like a lot of monologue and sex. Which, is good in moderation, but it felt like a lot. The main story profession is great, but definitely lacks cohesion.

This book was exceedingly long for no reason. Lots of nothing happened which I’m convinced was only written to meet some sort of word count. Poppy’s lineage is debated throughout the book and it’s drawn out. The conflict between both kingdoms is messily explained. It also seems like some things were added to be plot twists but they come off flat, likely because the reader is already thinking of every possibility since nothing is happening. The idea that Poppy is x but no she’s actually y but really she’s actually z is so completely exhausting. This book could have easily been 400 pages but was pushed to nearly 1200. AND THERES STILL TWO MORE BOOKS IN THE SERIES.
