William Henry Gates III was born on October 28, 1955 and raised in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. He is the son of William H. Gates Sr. and Marry Maxwell Gates.
His father was a prominent lawyer, and his mother served on the boards of directors for First Interstate Bank System and United Way of America. Gates had an elder sister Kristi and a younger sister Libby.
At the age of 13, he joined a private school named Lakeside prep School where he wrote his first software program. Gates took an interest in programming the GE basic computer which was for the students at the school.
