Engaging topic for this amateur philosophy reader. Puts a new slant on how the current cultural shifts are affecting more abstract concepts and experiences such as love, sexuality, desire. I came to this after hearing of the author on a podcast (Philosophize This!). His ideas about how increasing information (mostly online) is ‘enslaving’ us by making us think we’re increasing our freedom by working hard and constantly ego-comparing was thought provoking to say the least. Certainly struck a chord with this recovering social-media-‘aholic. I may be butchering the ideas but nonetheless it’s nice to hear professional philosophical thought on current problems being filtered into digestible concepts for the rest of us (and not just other academicians).
