Description

The Island of Doctor Moreau is an 1896 science fiction novel by English author H. G. Wells. The text of the novel is the narration of Edward Prendick, a mad surgeon-turned-vivisectionist and in his laboratory on a remote island performs ghoulish experiments in an attempt to transform animals into men, with monstrous results. The novel deals with a number of philosophical themes, including pain and cruelty, moral responsibility, human identity, and human interference with nature. The Island of Dr. Moreau has intrigued and horrified readers for generations. Considered one of the fathers of science fiction, H. G. Wells (1866–1946) brought enormous inventiveness and an underlying social vision and moral concern to his strange tales and bizarre imaginings.
